Take a tablespoon of The Beatles, a teaspoon of The Doors and a pinch of Hank Williams Sr., mix thoroughly and you have Cast the First Stone, the debut CD by The Thomas Stone Band. Cast the First Stone talks about the age old irony many of us face - being in love with finding love, yearning for love, but then not being sure what to do once we actually find it. The mood of the songs varies from the light hearted pop of "I'm Not Alone (I'm just lonely) and "In Our Own World" to dark and brooding melodies in "Gone Cold Turkey" and "Tears Behind the Glow" to the dreamy vocal harmonies of "Let It Go." The CD offers engaging melodies reminiscent of singer songwriters mixed together with influences of jazz, pop, good old rock and roll and even a bit of country. And just like the unexpected twists and turns we find as we search for love, you will find unexpected turns in the music of "Cast the First Stone," like the hard driving guitar solo that surprises you in the ballad, "Let It Go," or the Rhodes piano that adds to the aura of desperation in "Tears Behind the Glow. Yet with all the influences and twists throughout "Cast the First Stone," the theme remains the same - we all search for love, but is it ever what we really expect?
