Casie sent me "Battlegrounds" to see what I could create and recreate with it. It was one of her favorites and quickly became mine too. The lyrics are touching and inspiring. We all know someone going through something and when it is someone close to us, it hits hard. This song is about loving someone and being there for them while they go through their struggles- being their stable foundation to find rest in. Listening to her song, I kept seeing soldiers returning home from war, weighed down with the burdens of having fought honorably for their country. Drums, brass bands, ghost like voices, I heard all of these as I read the lyrics and knew I needed to make this song a civil war inspired piece. May this cover bring hope to all who are seeking refuge from their inner storms.
