简介
The unique approach of vocals over electric bass only. Beatles-esque harmonies. One song seamlessly flowing into the next one throughout the whole record. Vocal stylings (and songwriting influences) ranging from Arthur Lee (of Love) to Robin Zander (of Cheap Trick) to Corey Glover (of Living Colour) to Alex Chilton and Chris Bell (of Big Star) to King's X to Prince to Elliot Smith to Joni Mitchell and many many more. THE CHAIR PROJECT is mainly just one person: Jeff Couch (AKA Chairman) of DRATS!!!, the eccentric art-punk sextet from Portland, Oregon. As mentioned above, Chairman often utilizes the approach of vocals over electric bass only (listen to tracks such as "Straight Commission" and "Almost Silence"). And those vocals go from growling to falsetto - sometimes in the same song - but it's always melodic. Lots of moods here for sure - this is a record that takes you through a few slices of life and some different emotions. The record was made in Portland, and again it is called 'Random Conversation.' So the album gets its title from the lyrics of the song "Hollywood": hollywood, not the one we know in California cars honk at you on this Sandy road porno store, guaranteed to satisfy your fantasy man is at the door having a smoke medical building open 'round the clock you look inside then go the sidewalk said 'suck me' grocery store parking lot a stranger shares a little of his soul a random conversation... Stripped down and lo-fi, this is a personal record with real diversity in both mood AND musical style.
