“‘Twas Brillig,” begins Lewis Carroll’s famed poem, The Jabberwock. “Brillig” turns out to be less than gibberish. In fact, it is a very old word meaning, “teatime,” or more precisely, “boiling water.” A Theatre Near U offers this new, original, world premiere, never-been-seen-or-done-before musical production of, ‘Twas Brillig with all the boiling lunacy and absurd observations one would expect to find in Wonderland in the waning hours before the arrival of Alice. As one critic put it… "'Twas Brillig" is serious about its send-up of popular culture, just as the teens involved are serious about producing high quality live theater.” But these are liner notes! Composed by the brilliant young gentlemen, Andrew Wu and Emil Ernström, with lyrics by Tony Kienitz and Lewis Carroll, the jazzy pop score to ‘Twas Brillig is tremendously rich and charming. The stellar orchestra, conducted by Mr. Wu himself, is comprised of: Clara Wolfe/Leo Minami on Clarinet, Dexter Yanagisawa on Saxophone 1, Jason Ballard/Alan Huang on Saxophone 2, Emil Ernström on keyboard, Jeremy Samos on Bass and Peter Willits on Drums. What a truly fantastic band. Cast members on the album are: Roddy Cardamone, Alexandra Dinu, Jasmyn Donya, Lauren Emo, Monica Hobbs, Will Kast, Rachel Lock, Raymónd McCarthy, Elizabeth McCole, Cara Parker, Atticus Shaindlin, Quincy Shaindlin, Zoe!
