Partners of the Heart celebrates the legacy of African American medical genius Vivien Thomas and renowned "Blue Baby" surgeon, Alfred Blalock. The film tells the inspiring story of their partnership, from its start in Depression-era Nashville to its stunning successes at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The pair forged a bond that defied the Southern racial code of the 1930s. With no formal medical training, Thomas became a cardiac pioneer and a teacher to two generations of America's finest and most daring surgeons when he himself could not become one.
