Many artists struggle to establish their musical identity, laboriously trying on different musical styles like a piece of clothing, looking to find what fits. But there are others that emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. Frantz-Dee (Flanne Vil La) fits firmly in the latter category. His new album, Flanne Vil La, is a captivating and moving debut that heralds the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent, one whose music feels familiar in the best possible way, while striking out on its own territory. Born in Marchand Dessalines, L'artibonites HT, never take music seriously until he was in his early 20’s. He explains, “I started writing songs in my head, and it took my interest in music to another level. I wasn’t interested in anything I was doing other than music, and I loved the wide-openness of my life.” Met with Jocel Ameus back in 2010 for his first single "Debouche Chanpay La" that came out in 2011. Frantz-Dee saw their genuinely excited reaction. " A couple friends heard the song. They approached me and asked me to start working on my album (Flanne Vil La). Now recording in earnest, Frantz-Dee was gathering skill as a songwriter, taking his influences, like Gracia Delva, Ti Manno, Jean Herard Richard (Richie), Fabrice Rousier and Arly Larivier, and using them to shape his own style. “I grew up with a lot of Konpa Direk,” Frantz-Dee explains, “I used to save a lots of money just to go see band like Zenglen, Kreyol La, Djakout Mizik, Mizik Mizik, D-Zine, Septentrional. I naturally gravitate to heavy Konpa Direk sound; there’s a warmth and timelessness to it that I’ve always loved.” He recorded Ten songs, And spend months on certain songs, because He live in New Jersey and the studio is in Queens, New York. He had to wait for Jocel Almeus whiled he was touring with Tabou Combo in Africa, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Haiti. He reflects, “There was a lot of trial and error that went into the album. Specially on the singing part. sometimes I feel like I wasn't ready and that's why I am working so hard everyday to prove my fans I can do much better than what I delivered to them on the last album. But at the same time there's a lot of Konpa Direk fans who love the project because I have so many superstars on it like Gracia Delva, Reginald Cange, Kenny Desmangles, Shabba, Armstrong Jeune, Papito (EX Lead Singer Of Septentrional), Dabenz Chery, Shedly Abraham, Bertin Gedeon, Sergo Decius, Junior Septentrional, Danie Jules, Evelor Savior, JP Guitar, Loberto, Delva Michel, Michel Blaise.'' As his name grew in and around the New York, New Jersey area, the pieces began to fall into place for Frantz-Dee. Entering a citywide battle of the Musicians in New Jersey. Frantz-Dee hooked up with local producer Elize Jean (Elijah Production) and the two recorded a song. The song sparked major interest from several producers and in the end, he chose to Nickenson Prudhomme, Elize Jean and Bujimix. “Working with Elize and Nickenson has given me the freedom to be myself and to make the music exactly the way I want to make it,” he declares. Frantz-Dee is currently working with Nickenson Prudhomme, Elize Jean, Bujimix and Wawa Paswa on some new music for his loyal fans and looking to do more in the future with new musical styles, in the present his new single "Lanmou Nou" Produced by Elize Jean & Nickenson Prudhomme is doing very well. The future horizon looks endless for Konpa music and Franz-Dee looks to be a bright light in it! As time goes by a musician changes and grows with the music. Franz-Dee will impact the music scene in his own style and will be a force with the fans support.
