简介
Considering John’s career started as a founder and singer/songwriter for metal legends Annihilator (Alison Hell, Never, Neverland), it’s safe to say no one saw this black train coming. Big John Bates has woven a new sound of cello, bowed upright and guitars, inlaid with the dark melodies of his and Brandy Bones’ vocals. Still relentless as a steam-powered locomotive the band performs within a southern gothic landscape, drowned in atmosphere and resurrected in fire. “ … the music starts off with “backwoods punk with a sinister edge” but there is more, so much more, going on in the crazy collective conscious that is Big John Bates. Big John Bates himself is on guitar, while Brandy Bones controls the upright bass, which deepens the music, and cello. Both sing, and both couldn't be more different. Big John Bates’ raspy growl more or less spits in your face while Bones' muddy contralto drowns her subject matter in woe. Both are righteous accompaniments to the music while T-Hag keeps things riotous on percussion.”
