简介

Millard Clark专辑介绍:by Eugene ChadbourneOne would think a bunch of come-on lines would sound a little stale more than a decade after the fact, but this amusing collection of Native American songs with English lyrics is surprisingly fresh and entertaining. The drum sound is not as full as what drummer and producer Millard Clark eventually came up with when he produced his wonderful solo recordings, but it does the trick and listeners into rhythm should enjoy the shuffles they get into here. Vocal lines shared by Clark and his frequent collaborator Tom Ware blend together the familiar "nah nah" and "hey hey" phrasing with usually only about two lines of actual lyrics per song. Some are announcements of love, others are flattering remarks rendered without a trace of nervousness, and there is even "Pizza Song," which might make listeners want to order one. Other highlights are "To Hell With Your Old Man" and "You Are the Only One" (as in "you are the only one I checked out at the pow wow"). Native American singing with English lyrics might be a new thing to some who have previously enjoyed the intellectual security that comes with not having any idea what someone is singing about. In this case it is something of a revelation in understanding how music such as this is constructed and created, as well as filling listeners in on what kind of social interaction goes on at these "49" dances out west.
