简介

Now available on iTunes! If you\'re tired of the slick/polished praise pop of Christian music this could be the cd for you. The acoustic rock style is similar to earlier Coldplay and the themes deal with life, love and the struggle with suffering as especially noted in the Floydish song \"Really Want To Know\" and the interesting rhythm of \"Still Believe in Love\". The cd ends with a song of hope called \"Colors\" that swells with symphonic and rhthmic layers which seems to pull the rest of the ideas together in a triumphant whisp of sacred elegance. This cd is a flowing piece of art that although melodic in nature is not as predictable as more mainstream releases of the Christian genre. David is probably best known for being the lead singer of the band Abnormal Sunday and working as contemporary music director for Hope Creek. He started playing in bands years ago and formed a band called Mirror Image that toured the East Coast. Mirror Image broke up as band members went to various colleges, marriages, etc... He later formed the band Abnormal Sunday while working as music director for Hope Creek. Abnormal Sunday was offered a contract through Grassroots Music distribution for their debut release, but the band decided not to take that step. They have sold cd\'s all over the world through CDBaby and other online retailers as an indie artist. This CD is David\'s first solo project since leaving Abnormal Sunday. It is more reflective in nature and contains themes about life, love, faith and doubt. The swirling sounds and influences of U2, Coldplay and the Beatles are evident in the mix. Dave hooked up with Dale Baker who is known for his drum work with award winning band Sixpence None the Richer and their song \"Kiss Me\". \"Dale really helped bring the tracks to life\" said David. All the sounds you hear besides drums are guitars - using different reverb effects - except for the 3 songs with acoustic piano. There are no synthesizers on this disc. \"I wanted to keep it as real as possible\". David played all the instruments and handled most of the the mixdown in Seattle, working with Tim Karman (drummer for The People Now) a reputable technician, producer and musician in the Seattle music scene. Randy Hayes at Cross-Eyed studio in Fuquay Varina, NC mastered the project. \"It was a fun and therapeutic project to work on\" David says, \"and I think it captures my thoughts at the time of leaving Abnormal Sunday and North Carolina to live in Seattle, I\'m excited to have it completed and I hope those who remember me from Hope Creek, Abnormal Sunday and Mirror Image will find it both entertaining and thought provoking\". Cross Eyed Studio review: I just peeled the cellophane from the latest offering from David Finch simply entitled Colors. Let me just bypass the cheesy review process and skip to the important part: Good grief, this is a beautiful album! Here\'s how it all went down. First off, I have to say that David Finch is a musician that I have known, respected, and been a fan of all my life. Always the multi-instrument virtuoso and songwriter, David has now found his way into the producer\'s chair to bare his soul on Colors. And once again, he shines with a spectrum of sounds that are as meticulous and visionary as one could hope for such a thoughtful rock album to deliver. David first contacted Cross-eyed Studio in summer of 2006 to discuss tracking drums for a full album. He\'d been in touch with former Sixpence None the Richer drummer Dale Baker to handle all of the drum work on an album that was otherwise distinctly played and voiced by David himself. David and Dale came in during the first part of July for a marathon session in the hours preceeding David\'s departure for a one-year sabbatical in Washington state. Drum tracking went very smoothly, and though David\'s project was created exclusively in Pro Tools, we were able to adapt the project for tracking in Vegas in short order. Drum tracking for Colors Dale really proved his salt as one of the great studio drummers available in the area. He began by listening to and charting out each track, and then proceeded to knock each one out as though he had weeks to practice! With tracking wrapped, we exported each track for easy re-integration into the Pro Tools files, and David headed west to spend the next year overdubbing, mixing, and polishing each track. Upon his return, he brought the finished tracks over to begin the mastering process in October. Throughout the process, I provided an FTP site for David as mixes were tweaked to perfection. The mastering sessions were a joy. David was enthusiastic about my creative input as the engineer. He let me have a little fun with the album when most of the more common tasks of mastering were complete. Here\'s a bit of feedback from David on his experience at Cross-eyed Studio: \"Working with Randy at Cross-eyed Studio was a real pleasure. Randy had everything in place and ready to go for the drum tracking. He enabled me to be the artist while maintaining his role as technician. I felt very comfortable with him at the controls and knew his ear would pick out anything that wasn\'t working with the basic tracking. When I finished the mix and took it to him for mastering he again proved to have a great ear and understanding of what needed to happen to bring the project together.\" All told, the album was worth the wait. It\'s a collection of colorful gems that have been mined as from the soul, polished by a tumble cross country with all its hills and valleys, strung together by a message of enduring love, and finally ready to be put on when you\'re in the mood for a real rock show. Colors by David Finch is available through Kunaki and CD Baby. Preview tracks and order your copy today!
