The literal meaning of word Aghaaz is- the beginning. It has been derived from the Persian and Urdu languages. The reason behind naming this album 'Aghaaz' is very simple that is, it is a start of an era which brought the two main artists of the album, close to each other, prompting them to do this album. Nadeem Khan, the vocalist in the album hails from the famous family of musicians from India popular as Rampur-Sehaswan Gharana (school/family of music). He is a trained Indian classical vocalist and has the capability to carry forward the rich legacy of his illustrious family. Katrina Fountain, the other half of the musical duo, is actually the brain behind this album. She is a noted flautist and saxophonist from south London and has been performing worldwide over the years. She has represented her country in many of the prestigious music festivals and events worldwide. She has already, under her name, couple of successful albums which she did with the musicians whilst her visit in Africa. Last year, i.e. April 2009, Miss Fountain was visiting one of her friends in India. There, at a common friend's party, she met Nadeem and they jammed live for sometime. This created an impact on Katrina in such a way that she expressed her interest to do an album with Nadeem as she found Indian music to be really skillful and quite amazing. The Album contains 11 songs featuring some of the traditional classical compositions from Indian music, couple of compositions by Nadeem and 2 of Katrina's flute solo's. Keeping all the audience's in mind, both of them have worked on harmony and melody and have tried to bring out a combination of western and Indian music in such a way, which will give, the listener's, a complete voyage of fusion music.
