The 4:20 Club The 4:20 Club Vol 1 is a live acoustic album of new songs written and performed by the artist Dan Clarke. The name of course a double barrel meaning, synonymous with American college students who penned the term as a symbol of, when college would finish and they would get stoned. For my side of the barrel however, while I do give a big nod to the symbolism, the name 4:20 has derived from the songs themselves. The focus for the project was to write good short pop songs, that all tell there own stories within a given amount of time. The aim was to keep all songs to around an average of 3:20. I guess the album could have been called the 3:30 Club but somehow it just does not have the same ring to it!. The 4:20 comes more into play during the live experience, with no song ever going over 4:20, including tuning, audience engagement and maybe even a 4:20, if we are outside of course! The reason for this project was to refine the songwriting, to structure the experimentation almost. When we write riffs and progressions, it is very easy for that piece to become 10 minutes long. I know there are countless classics that are quite lengthy tunes, but I think there is something special about the short pop song. One big inspiration for this was Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars by David Bowie, and specifically Rock n Roll Suicide, the last track on side 2. Facebook Artist Page - Dan Clarke Music
