Preludes for Solo Harp
简介
Meaning "dream," Sommeil takes its name and inspiration from the fourth movement of Leone's preludes. In his dreamscape, disparate ideas, those of shape and shapelessness, merge and reveal bright, defined forms. Leone's sound world blends idioms from across the spectrum, drawing from angular, rhythmic dance forms to the organic lyricism of the human voice. To visualize these tableaux, Elizabeth Albertson allowed paint to flow naturally through controlled spilling then overlaid bright contrasts of distinct line; artistic representations of the blending of shape and shapelessness. Merging the soundscapes of the harp and guitar, my transcriptions of works by Domeniconi, Brouwer, and Piazzolla seek to maintain the guitar's lyricism, rhythmic vitality and various idiosyncrasies, while adding the warmth of the harp and its depth of sound. These selections were recorded in a large space with natural reverb to create intimacy; to make that type of connection only possible when up close to the performer. I hope you enjoy this album as much as I have enjoyed creating it and living in the world of this music.
