简介
Biography With a voice described as "white sand," Tanya Alexander finds her way deep into the heart of a song and brings it home to her audience. Tanya has been on the Atlantic Canadian music scene since 1995, when she joined with three other Newfoundland and Labrador-based musicians to form the quartet Shy Mary, in St. John’s. The folk band enjoyed a strong following in the capital city, receiving invitations to perform with CBC Radio, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the world music Sound Symposium, among other notable venues. The band, consisting of Geoff Smith on guitar and as primary songwriter, Mary Brennan on flute and background vocals, Frank Fusari on Double Bass, and Tanya as lead vocals and co-writer, worked with such groups as The Punters, The Ennis Sisters, Mary Barry, Sandy Morris, Bill Brennan, Paul Kinsman, Wade Pinhorn, and Romano Di Nillo, and received critical acclaim for their debut album Shy Mary, released in 1997. Tanya was nominated for the Newfoundland and Labrador Music Industry Association’s Female Artist of the Year for the album. Since leaving St. John’s for the west coast of the island, Tanya has tried her hand at musical theatre with professional summer stock company The Stephenville Theatre Festival, among others. She’s starred in such musical productions as The Outlaws, Rave On!, ABBA-the Music, and Baby. Tanya has produced, directed and performed in such concerts as God Bless the Child, with special guests Karla Pilgrim, Julia Moore and Darrin Martin, and Mojo Workin' with guests Terri Lynn Eddy, Bryan Oram and Louis MacDonald. She'll be presenting a tribute to The Carpenters at the Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre in May 2011. In the meantime, Tanya wanted to pay tribute to her musical roots with this country and western album. You'll hear great songs by Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, John Conlee and more, along with some snappy originals. Enjoy the walk down memorie lane and let's make some new memories! Kisses...
