简介
Fifth Street was a Chicago Band that formed in late 1968 and lasted until about the end of 1973. It started as a 5 piece and evolved into a 7 piece horn band, all members were born and raised in Chicago. We covered a lot of the jazz rock horn bands of that era; Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Cold Blood,Sly and The Family Stone, and many less famous bands of that era. We had an original all american sound, jazz,R&B,Pop.Rock, Gospel, and even some classical influences. We added a 50's Rock and Roll show to our sets which in many ways was our downfall. Fans would come to our shows just to see how crazy we could get, and we didn't disappoint. We did have original material but didn't perform those songs much at shows. Chicago area bands of that era played mainly covers, you had to go to New York or L.A. to get record deals. Two record labels did come out to hear us (Mercury Records, based out of Chicago and i don't remember the other label, but nothing developed. A friend of the band recorded our original music live to a 4 track 1/4 inch reel to reel tape recorder (no over dubs) live at the bands rented house on February 1973, but shortly after that we split up.Those original songs sat around for over 40 yrs and were never released, until now.We did cut a single record (Life is A Merry- Go- Round) from another writer, a friend or family member of a famous composer Hugo Montenegro. It was recorded at Brunswick Records in Chicago, they pressed about 25-50 records on a 45 single(never released) so somebody out there might just have one. All the songs were written by Dave Amici and Frank mike Liptrot except for In Black Water ( Brian Keady and Bill Basanice) and It's Not Really Me It's Just my Mind.( Norm Murray and Florian Koevari )Arrangements were done by input from all the band members, which are still living in the Chicago metro area. Most are still involved in music. Maybe this will shine a light on what might have been. Thanks for your time and interest and feel free to comment on our music and maybe pick a favorite for our U Tube Video soon to come.
