Goddess was formed in the winter of 2011 in a small, yellow house with no heat. Pulling influences from jazz, pop, and soul, Ben Gibbs, the sole writer and performer, gives his listeners conflicting reactions to his songs. The lyrics to one particularly upbeat, hip-shakingly swanky song are so obviously sad and tragic that it is unclear how the subject of the song had the strength to leave his bed. The listener experiences joy and shakes off their own heavy feelings only to realize that this joy is fleeting, and the night will soon be over. Gibbs' ability to communicate such imagery and emotion under such beautiful sounds and melodies is totally signature. Happiness and sadness are two sides of the coin the listener will see and hear when listening to Goddess.
