Following very closely in the massive wake of their recent debut 12" release from Pawas; New York's Undulate Recordings continues to guide their dancefloor-fueled vessel calmly and confidently. With their first two releases boasting top-shelf works from proven pioneers such as Terry Lee Brown Jr, LoSoul, and the aforementioned Pawas; the label clearly has it's radar locked and loaded; and the young imprint's third offering confirms their intent to remain in deep waters. Kornel Lemon comes to the rescue to offer "My Shelter"; just in time for the peaking hurricane season. But the EP provides much more than that, however. The title track, My Shelter glimmers a faint beacon of funk and soul through the shroud of fog that emanates from the cut's deep pads and shuffling percussion. Strings n Pix then rolls in, dissipating the fog and clearing the skies with its bright and sunny groove; dominated by string, and guitars -- as the title clearly suggests. Chicago's Audio Soul Project is cordially invited and joins the crew with his stunning reconstruction of My Shelter; as he completely turns the track on it's head, mutating it into a floor-filling, funk-laden cut that makes it's intent to get you moving very clear. Strings n Pix gets a lovingly executed reworking from Manhattan Projject; the duo behind the rapidly rising Stranjjur Imprint; a label that Undulate shares brotherly ties, and much history with. Unlike Audio Soul Project's remix, the duo chose to keep many of the original elements intact; yet the addition of their unique sound signature via their mix of modern and acoustic bass, as well as an uplifting vocal that screams "Good times never felt so good" -- a fitting description for this summery, feel-good release; which arrives via Undulate's groove-fueled cargo ship, just in time for the open-air summer season.
