简介
When telling jokes you should be careful that the jokes do not inadvertedly rebound. This is exactly how I feel when performing the capricci (Italian for whim, or joke) by Paganini and Sciarrino. They are difficult, but nobody should notice, or rather: Everybody should take note and be amused by you, but not about you! As to Sciarrino's works mirroring those of Paganini, they do this no more than Paganini mirrors Locatelli. In fact, you could get the impression that nothing new was ever invented. Still - the way Sciarrino applies "impossible" techniques, well-informed of the existence of tricks that convey exactly what he has written, is proof of an ingenious, even ironic knowledge of violinistic matter. And this really ranks his capricci as equal to those gems by Niccolo Paganini and his forebears. How this could affect the perception of Paganini's capricci may be heard in the final performance of the 1st capriccio. (es)
