Drummer Aaron Morris and guitarist Dan Beckmann met at Durham University and formed Ditto in the winter of 2016. After a few jam sessions, they played a fully improvised, instrumental set comprising several short songs at an open mic night. This show typified their unique style that would develop over the next year: ambient sections of looped guitar crescendoing into exciting, tribal drum beats interlocked with beautiful and haunting chords. Over the next year, they played in many venues across Durham, and worked on injecting specific feelings and moods into their improvised movements. They have just released their first single: Modern Day Essentials, which draws on all of their previous work, and includes a vocal section by their good friend Peter Buck.
