简介

DARKNESS THROUGH THE LIGHT THOMAS RISING AKA DICK MONSTER GOES TO WAR Born in the wasted suburbs of Detroit, Thomas Thomas, the only man in Detroit who doesn’t need a stage name, was influenced at an early age by Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The MC5, Alice Cooper, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, John Lennon and Creedence Clearwater Revival. As a teen, he went to see David Bowie in both his Spiders from Mars and Diamond Dogs tours before he graduated high school. He was actually at Metallic KO, Iggy Pop and the Stooges last ever concert, and went to see Blondie when she warmed up for Iggy and the Stooges at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. The Ramones and The New York Dolls rounded out the vast universe that was every day Rock life in Detroit. Life then truly was sex and drugs and Rock and Roll, and not necessarily in that order. He picked up a guitar at age nine and by age 12 demonstrated an early penchant for showmanship by setting his guitar on fire in his mother’s living room after blowing up the amplifier that his mother had rented for him. He figured out early on that chicks dig guitar players. But what he really loved was to sing - and man could he sing! Soon he discovered that chicks REALLY like guitar players that can both play guitar and sing, and he has never stopped doing both ever since. Over the decades he has played in many of the vital but unsung bands in the Mudstone back Alleys of Detroit to include The Hypnotics and most recently as Dick Monster, one of the driving forces behind the ever-toxic, Ritalin-soaked ADhD rock band The Walkin Talkin Toxins. Through all that time he has been writing and recording original songs and performing them whenever he could. He joined the United States Army when the first Gulf War broke out. His song on the album, Good Times and Land Mines, (free download on the audio page of this site) makes reference to President Bush' promise that the war would be over in less than 12 months. “Dear Sweetie, I’ll be gone for Christmas - Be gone for no more than a year.” Wrote a song about it, then joined the Army as a Medic. Just before he left for the Army he went into a Nashville basement studio and recorded ten tracks with his brother John. He has since been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan with special duty in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and through it all he continued to write. He would record on a laptop, on a cell phone, on whatever device was available In Theater. Now returned from the War Zone to face the apathy and decadence of the land of chocolate croissants and indoor plumbing, Thomas Thomas is releasing DARKNESS THROUGH THE LIGHT, a three-disc anthology of his recorded works over the eons showcasing his wide-ranging songwriting abilities. The genres range from from balls-out rock like “History” to near a-cappella singing with his brother on “Ribbon of Doubt” with eerie, pretty, chilling ballads like “Crytal Blue Dream,” which was written while recovering from Acute Pancreatitis after being medevaced out of Afghanistan. The new album includes seven songs found on Disc 3, all written either ‘over there’ or on brief stateside visits between deployments. The songs are being recorded at the Tempermill Studios in Detroit, and a cacophony of his hoodlum friends will be making guest appearances. DARKNESS THROUGH THE LIGHT is a wild ride through the labyrinthian recesses of the mind of the Wandering Troubadour as he leaves Mudstone Alley to go to War and finally return to the peace and quiet of the back alleys and punk rock bars of Detroit. The album includes previously unreleased tracks from recordings in Detroit with the Hypnotics, recordings in Nashville in a basement studio with an engineer/drummer named Carlos WSG John Thomas on guitar and vocals, some cuts from Apocalypse Au Go-Go with The Walkin Talkin Toxins as well as the new recordings from Detroit. Peruse this vast album and savor the lyrics, and experience the heights and depths that a soul can reach. Worldwide album release on March 28th 2015.
