In the early 1990s, Penny Flanagan and Julia Richardson were Club Hoy: two girls with guitars who sang in perfect angelic harmony and wrote sweet melodic pop songs. Their fresh sound took the local indie scene by storm and they released a limited edition vinyl seven inch on Waterfront Records. This brought them to the attention of a major label, Regular Records and they were soon signed. With the addition of rhythm section, Bernie Hayes and Vincent Sheehan they played regular ‘sold out’ shows on the indie pub circuit around the country. Their debut album Thursday’s Fortune (with its singles House on Fire and Not Like That) was a high rotation JJJ favourite in the early ‘90s. The band broke up in 1993. But 20 years on Penny and Julia have reconnected. In September, 2013, Martin Fabinyi, managing director of the now defunct Regular Records made the decision to return the copyright of all master tapes in the Regular Records catalogue to his artists.
