简介

‘True2Self.’ Dropped November 24th, 2015. The JustQuality Muzik Group-produced record remains an integral part of HollaTheTruth’s catalog. Clocking in at seven tracks, it acts more as an EP than a full record. It is, however, a very sharply produced effort. Let’s dig right into it. The first true track on the album is the title track, ‘True 2 Self.’ It immediately defines HollaTheTruth as an exceptionally talented wordsmith and artist. The song effortlessly combines hip hop and R&B influence. It’s an inspirational track, but doesn’t fall victim to the stereotypical pitfalls of your typical inspirational tune. Rather, it’s a very original pursuit. I adore the production - from the brief synthesizers to the autotuned chorus vocals, ‘True 2 Self’ is a ballad of self-empowerment worth listening to. ‘Power’ has a similar feel to the titular track, if not just due to Holla’s very fascinating perspective of life. I really dig the usage of spoken samples on this, and the instrumentation of the piece only furthers me lauding the sonic quality of this album. Everything is mixed elegantly well. ‘People That Love Me’ may be the most poignant example of that, combining HollaTheTruth’s production and lyricism with samples from a beat-spoken poem. ‘Make A Way’ continues Holla’s jaunt through empowering music. ‘Make A Way’ is a tune about him forging his own path through the industry toward a brighter future. He doesn’t have time for your judgement or your narcissism - by any means, he’ll make a way. ‘Money Right,’ a track featuring Molly G and Ayo Luciano, heavily embraces an R&B styling, something that works masterfully alongside Holla and his counterparts. “I thought I’d end this sh*t with a bang,” Holla proclaims at the beginning of ‘Outro.’ Here’s what I love about this song - it’s an Outro that’s equally as solid, if not more intense, than the full pieces on the record. HollaTheTruth isn’t going to go softly into the night, rather, his finale is one of the most epic I’ve heard all year. HollaTheTruth is immensely talented. I adore his sound and his production is fantastically good. As a hip hop artist and rapper, he defines himself on this album as a massive talent, one with endless potential.
