Ngo Tu Nhi grew up in a very cultural world. Her parents migrated from Vietnam and settled in North Carolina where she was born. She always knew that she wanted to be a singer/songwriter. Nhi spoke English and very little Vietnamese but, still stayed involved within the Vietnamese community and was always performing in Vietnamese cultural events. She had a dream to one day become an americanized Vietnamese singer, someone for other young people like her to look up to. She wanted the Vietnamese music industry to have the modern sounds of the American Music she was used to hearing. She was tired of seeing talented Vietnamese singers singing covers songs from the 80's and 90's and could never understand why they couldn't write their own songs. All the good songs that the Vietnamese singers would sing and put on their albums were actually songs originally from China or Korea, America... etc... and the singers would just translate the songs into vietnamese and call it their hit. The only true Vietnamese songs written and created in Vietnam were very old fashion. Nhi wanted to be the singer that had her own style and original songs, that were created by her and not a cover translation of another hit. Songs from the heart, written with her feelings in mind. Vietnamese music has come a long way since this dream was in the works but somehow she has always known that this was her calling and she made it happen, even when people laughed and said she could sing well but not in Vietnamese, for she could not speak Vietnamese. With a lot of hard work and determination, she would not accept this, knowing that one can control their fate and must go for their dreams. She now can speak Vietnamese fluently and has written many songs in Vietnamese and English, and she is the producer of her own album. Dreams can come true, with hard work anything is a possibiltiy. Never say never...
