Kent Stetler – A Stranger to the Game “A Stranger to the Game”: This is the titel of Kent Stetler’s new album. The singer/songwriter from Canada, tells a story of restlessness and the search for something he lost in his voice. The result of this search is now available as a CD or downloadable from the internet: 15 honest songs - a mix of soul, rock and pop. A musical delight and an album for the summer. Here’s the story: About 12 years ago Kent Stetler leaves his homeland Canada and arrives in Europe with just the shirt on his back. As a singer and bandleader he learns many aspects of life as a musician: He’s seen and heard playing sax and singing on the streets, performs with several bands on small stages and clubs. At the jazz school in Bern, he gets an education as a singer. He later performs on the big TV show stages, when RTL from Germany calls. The private broadcasting company offers him a job as a singer for their Saturday night show “Let’s Dance”. In 2006 and 2007 he sings for millions. Despite these great experiences in studios and on stages, he’s bee missing something during these years: the musical freedom to sing what he wants. He decides to find out what “his thing” is: this marks the start of his first album “Back Again”. He became an artist with something to say and people started to listen. Thereafter, the song “She’ll Be Very You” is played for several weeks on DRS3. While recording “Back Again” the idea was born for “A Stranger to the Game”. “I knew “Back Again” was only a first step, with lots of learning by doing and teaching myself through trial and error. Having learned from these mistakes, he decides to go for broke and leaves for South America for 3 months. “It was important to leave everything behind, so I could just concentrate on myself writing songs with guitar, re-finding my sound.” In Brazil he finally finds what he’s been searching for: passion! It flows in his lyrics for example, in “What the Hell Was That?” as he combines strength and tenderness in his incomparable voice, talking about his ex-girlfriend who left him for his best friend. Or in “She’s Brazil” the light, driving song accompanied by guitar and piano. With 15 songs in his backpack he returns to Europe and spends the following months with his band - Christoph Fluri (Drums), Pascal Kaeser (Bass), Oliver Keller (Guitar) and Philip Henzi (Piano) - in Powerplay Studios and Sonar Sound Studio. The result - “A Stranger to the Game” - convinces and shows a musically mature musician.
