New York is a song written by Amari & ANNÉ depicting the struggles of a modern day relationship. The lyrics liken the potential of a romance to be as beautiful as big, bustling cities like New York, but lament that it could just as easily crumble like Pompeii. The male and female protagonists of the song argue through the lyrics, where the male protagonist attempts to reassure his lover of his commitment despite the female attention he is gaining. The female protagonist, in turn, expresses her discomfort and uncertainty about the direction and progress of their relationship.
