Ages 18, 17 and 12. But age aside, we are creative musicians who formed in march 2010, and we set a goal to write powerful music. We wanted to record a five song EP: Sunset, Pink, Midnight, Insomnia, and Sunrise. These five songs were written in the first couple weeks of our band's existence. After we wrote Nostalgic Moment and parts of As the City Quietly Sleeps, we decided to complete a full length album. We started the recording process in May, once Joe got a macbook and a student version of Protools. We recorded out of Joe's basement, using mostly vintage 70's and 80's equipment. Recording took from the months of may to the end of July, and it was an extremely stressful time period. The entire album is self recorded, produced, and mastered. An extraordinary guitar player by the name of David Glaze was a founding member of the band, and recorded on all of our songs, but he rarely showed up to practice, and quit the band right before we finished recording in late July. Once the recordings were finished, we went through an intense week of self mastering, and prerelease printing. We have sold several prerelease cd's at some of our gigs. Sunset is heavily inspired off of a This Will Destroy You song. It was written in about 45 minutes in Joe's basement. Pink started as a riff that David and Tanner have been jamming for about two years. We wrote structure and added drums later to complete the song. The first half of Midnight was written the day the band was formed, and the second half of Midnight was written about a week later when we set up our gear in the back yard of Joe's house. Insomnia is a handful of riffs thrown together at one jam session, and has evolved slightly from when it was written to when it was recorded. It's our most "proggy" song. As the City Quietly Sleeps is heavily inspired off of Russian Circles and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We consider this our "masterpiece" track. It consists of three distinct parts: the first one is heavy and very technical, the second is extremely ambient and airy, and the final part is slow and extremely emotional. This is our favorite song to perform in a live setting by far! A Maudlin Interlude is based off of an improvised guitar riff written by Joe at University of Maryland College park one day, after he listened to "Interlude 4" by maudlin of the Well. The Acoustic Bass was improvised. The bells and harmonica were written at the time of recording. This song took only an hour to record. This was also our first recording (we think? Other contenders are Sunset and Sunrise, but we aren't really sure) Sunrise is based off of an acoustic guitar riff Joe wrote about four years before the band started. Sam and Joe have been jamming this song since then. Tanner wrote a bass line, and ambient samples were added at the time of recording. First Signs of Summer was originally supposed to be part of Sunrise, but we recorded it as a separate track because it felt right. Tanner wrote the baseline initially, and Joe added the guitar, samples and programmed electric drums at the time of recording. The bass was improvised when it was recorded. It is meant to sound almost like a reprise of Sunrise. Nostalgic Moment is the most spontaneous of all of our songs, because it was written in one jam. Tanner started to play the baseline, Sam joined in, and Joe played some keys. This went on for about seven minutes, and we were happy with what we were playing. David added his ambient guitar parts later. The end of the song is the beginning of Sunset in reverse, except it is cut off where the bass note starts. We added reverb in post production to make the ending smother.
