简介
Jersey boys from different parts, The Help don’t sound much like a Jersey band. Lead singer/songwriter Sachin Doshi’s obsession with the pop, rock&roll, and soul of the 60’s has manifested itself in a record that mixes modern indie-rock tastes with an ancient notion (say 1965 or at best 1984) that Top 40 radio could represent the most exciting popular music being made. To Sachin’s vision, the other members of the band bring their particular gifts to shape the sound into what it is. Oliver Buchert is a classically trained musician, with a versatility that spreads across the spectrum of instruments, and allows him to add touches of color that often become the key to the impact of a given track. Drummer Billy MacKeigan’s broad taste, which stretches from lowbrow to highbrow in the great tradition of rock and roll, allows him to sympathize with the needs of any given song, and he brings a heedless enthusiasm the others are too self-conscious to show off. Filtering British Invasion, Motown and soul, Brill Building, and classic country through the past 25 years of radio, and the past 8 years of indie rock, The Help have crafted an immensely pleasurable and ultimately hopeful and idealistic album about skepticism, romance, sex, religion, globalization, and death.
