I've always loved Christmas, and as far back as I can remember, I've wanted to make a recording of Christmas music. In 1995 that dream came true with our ground breaking "A LatinJazz Christmas" CD. A first of it's kind. In support of that recording, my wife, Yvonne, and I decided to take a chance and we four-walled the Luckman Theatre (1,200 seats) at Cal State Los Angeles. The first show was so successful that the director of the theatre, Clifford Harper, said to me, "if you can bring me a big band version of this show, I'll buy it." The following year we beefed up the arrangements to support my 22 piece LatinJazz orchestra and "A LatinJazz Christmas Show" ran for 15 years. This recording, "The Magic of Christmas", brings together much of what I've learned over my 50+ years in the music business, and it will forever bring a smile to my heart. I like to think we've polished up the 'big band' sound with a magnificent chorus of vocalists and modernized the harmonies and feelings. Basically, we've given Christmas music a 21st century face lift. By the way, this recording is also the first complete "big band" Christmas CD of it's kind…it's good to be first.
