In October 2003, Out of the Grey's Christine Dente released her first solo project, Becoming. Produced by husband Scott Dente, the album is a candid telling of Christine Dente's experiences as a young girl, wife, and mother. Unlike Out of the Grey's guitar-driven style, the piano takes front and center on Becoming. Its gentle melodies serve to support and enhance Dente's airy voice, which bears similarities to the vocals of Amy Grant.

Lyrically, the album takes listeners on a journey — the journey of a Christian woman as she faces growing up, marriage, motherhood, and faith. Songs include the title cut, which speaks of learning to see oneself through the eyes of God, and "Summer," a track about enjoying every moment with one's children.
