The eighth release from Good Crazy lives up to the label's name - it's Barbara Nicole's Dirty Dutch, Vol 1. with two futuristic covers of classics from her teenage years. Fresh off her collaboration with ST..N (aka Luxe Agoris) and FortySevn (aka Raville) on the Shiny Objects EP, she brings the two Dutch producers back to showcase their ability to merge dance music genres that lead to truly idiosyncratic sounds. Barbara makes "SexyBack" crazy but so good, transforming the original hit into a 2025 dancefloor essential that DJs across the globe will use to get parties hyped. "SexyBack" bristles with acid house flavors and is underpinned by a strong electroclash foundation that is elevated by Barbara's sharp and witty vocal delivery. She seamlessly moves from deadpan lines to a sultry vocal within the individual verses before a Mediterranean surprise opens up the track: Barbara Nicole's adept and beautiful melismatic singing which could easily belong on a Moroccan folk song but is uniquely at home here on this banger. On "Common People", Barbara cleverly captures the theme of the original, which is of course an anthem about "class tourism". She uses a deft arrangement of the original lyrics and her sub octave down tuned vocals which allow you to hear Barbara in a way you've never heard her before. Now as the song's deep voiced protagonist, she dominates the track and evokes the OG's biting satire. And it is so imaginative to hear the original transformed from an upbeat major key simple Casiotone led track into a crazily good, wild genre mash up of darkwave and tech house.
