简介

“One of the Year’s Best and Most Hauntingly Psychedelic Albums. Goddess are one of New York’s most phantasmagorical, individualistic bands. There is no other group in town who sound remotely like them. Part creepy 60s psychedelic act, part folk noir, part underground theatre troupe, they create a magically eerie ambience… This is an album you have to spend some time with, and get lost in. Its closest relative is Judy Henske and Jerry Yester’s 1969 cult classic Farewell Aldebaran; someday this too may be just as prized by collectors of magical esoterica.” -- NEW YORK MUSIC DAILY “GODDESS COMES ALIVE with the close-up that is Paradise, in which their formerly austere witch-folk is rendered in nerve-tingling Technicolor, with haunted invocations now textured courtesy shards of a cracked, hacked, ransacked kaleidoscope.” -- DAVID GRUBBS “Fran Pado’s purple vocals dance in angular harmonies with Tamalyn Miller’s golden ones, punctuated by Tamalyn’s incredibly spooky shaman’s fiddle. The effect is witchy freak folk lifted by mirth and performativity.” -- DEAD LANGUAGE AIRPORT ZINE GODDESS was born in 2001 at Floyd Bennett Field, a decommissioned airport in Brooklyn. The band is now founding members Fran Pado (formerly of Double Dong) and Tamalyn Miller, and multi-instrumentalist (and Pado’s husband) Andy Newman. In 2007, Goddess recorded a self-titled album produced by David Grubbs and performed a ritual play with music and text, Golden Vines & Honey Wine, at Chelsea’s Autoversion Gallery for five sold-out nights. Paradise was recorded by Nathan Rosenberg (gold record for Poe’s debut), and Joe McGinty (Loser’s Lounge director and former Psychedelic Furs keyboardist), with co-production, arrangements, loops and extra instruments by Bob Maynard. Guests include trombonist Peter Zummo (Arthur Russell), guitarist Bob Bannister (P.G. Six, Tono-Bungay, Cat Power), bassist David Newman (Styrenes) and Leah Coloff, a cellist who recorded with Lou Reed and toured with Damon Albarn. Fran Pado is the band’s lyricist. Tamalyn Miller built her one-string horsehair fiddle herself. Attic instruments played by Andy Newman include lap dulcimer, toy guitar and keyboard, cuatro, pump organ and taperine. Andy’s father, Aaron Newman, founded pioneering effects company Musitronics and kindly lent the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase played on Belladonna Honey.
