简介
Alfonso Espiño's (Santiago de Compostela, 1976) first steps in music can be traced to the pop band Contrastes in the early nineties. This band proved to be pivotal for Alfonso's songwriting, singing and bass playing skills. They disbanded in 2003, when Espiño took the front role on Mega Purple Sex Toy Kit, a hard psychedelic five piece combo who were highly influenced by the likes of Deep Purple or Portland's Hunger. During his time with Mega Purple, Alfonso widened his musical spectrum and had the chance to perform abroad for the first time, often sharing the bill with late versions of mythical bands like The Yardbirds, The Lyres, The Zombies or The Remains. In 2009, he founded the Spanish Beat group Los Chavales, who were specialised in covering hispanic songs from the sixties. They issued several records before splitting in the Fall of 2016, when Alfonso decided to walk solo and start afresh one more time. The premises now were writing all original material and singing in his mother tongue: Galician. He also assumed the bass role and gave the new band his own name, for stating things clear from start. Their first public appearance granted they the Galicia Creativa award, which helped them register his first recording as Espiño, I. The record is a blend of Alfonso's past and contemporary influences, that range from British psychedelic and progressive rock to American power pop and a slightly avant-garde leaning, not forgetting some drops of folk. The lyrics show a fondness for the occult and mystery and for the ancient lore, sometimes affected by a personal touch of Galician humour. Most of the songs boast delicate arrangements and three part vocal harmonies, and the overall result gives the sensation of meticulous detailing. The cover art and inner sleeve illustrations were drawn by Alfonso, the layout and packaging being the work of designer Rocío Alén.
