简介
by François CoutureMeisha belongs to the string of bands that dwelt into the post-rock caves of the late 1990s. Their music is made of distortionless electric guitars, piano, and organ. It is rare to hear one musician playing more than one note at a time. Songs are linear, moving from one chord (or chord progression) to another after a certain time. The music is not as dark as Michael Tamburo's paintings pictured in the booklet, but it does convey the same feeling of abstraction. Not as melancholic as Godspeed You Black Emperor! (but not as evocative either), Meisha is more positive, serene. The melodies seem to come naturally and are presented in a simple form, although some tracks, like "Vic d'Amico," hide some complex progressions. Listening too closely to this album only highlights the repetitive element almost inherent to post-rock, but Meisha Returns Meisha Forever works perfectly as background music. Fans of Labradford and Low will feel at home with Meisha.
