Fully Fullwood delivers driving heartbeat reggae with the release of his new CD, Crazy Town. The bass legend George “Fully” Fullwood, founder of the crucial 1970s Jamaican band Soul Syndicate, has shaped the sound of reggae music across the decades. During his stellar career, Fullwood has provided the rhythmic essence for every major reggae artist, including the all-time greats Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Joe Higgs, Dennis Brown, and Michael Rose. His third solo album, Crazy Town, was produced and recorded at Fully’s Kitchen in San Clemente, California by the reggae master himself. Fullwood’s hypnotic vocals and dynamic bass create a solid musical core, and guest artists Deborah Jeter (a.k.a. Lady Dee, vocals), Adam Arredondo (vocals and keyboards), and Rusty Zinn (vocals and guitar) round out the album with their unique creative talents. Crazy Town also marks the bassist’s third album collaboration with Frances Fullwood as co-writer. The eighteen memorable tracks on Crazy Town focus on themes defining the human condition and classic reggae: justice, freedom, loss and love. As one example, the opening atmospheric title track reveals a world turned upside down: “Justice corrupted by prejudice, the verdict is in before the trial begins – a hand in everybody’s pocket.” The album’s sixth track “Chief Joseph” is a tribute to Native Americans that reinforces reggae’s reach for universal truth and human rights. It presents the true story of Chief Joseph who died of a broken heart after witnessing the destruction and forced captivity of his people: “The smoke of tepees burning – blood soaks deep into the soil – the buffalo once like grains of sand – all but disappeared from the face of the land.” With Crazy Town, Fully Fullwood’s positive roots vibrations link the genre’s classic past to the social realities of the twenty-first century, propelled by his musicianship and his years on the reggae front line.
