简介
Vocal and guitar. Traditional music from Bosnia-Herzegovina. Sevdalinka. 1. Ostavljen sam vec odavno (Zaim Imamovic – Muhamed Mesanovic Hamic) As far as I know, this is the only case where Zaim Imamovic wrote the lyrics while someone else composed the music. It is not less important that that «someone else» was Muhamed Mesanovic Hamic, one of the most important saz players in the history of sevdah. 2. Nemoj druze (xxx – Hasim Muharemovic) Hasim Muharemovic told me he had heard this song from an older man more than fifty years ago. It was in a very bad shape so Muharemovic had to compose it anew or, in his own words, «re-tailor» it. 3. Kradem ti se (xxx) This classic song was given its definitive shape by Zaim Imamovic and Ismet Alajbegovic Serbo in their famous version from the 1950s. While always keeping an eye on it, I have long been trying to escape from it. 4. Popio sam zenino prstenje (xxx) I first heard this song from the sevdah master Hasim Muharemovic. By changing a part of the second verse I tried to give a more sublime reason for the main character's drunkenness. Now it is a song about how people mirror each other. 5. Dva se draga (xxx – Damir Imamovic) I found the lyrics «Dva se draga» in a collection of «people's» poetry printed in Sarajevo at the beginning of the twentieth century. Writing a melody for it was almost a conditioned reflex. It tells a story about forbidden love. 6. Majka Muju mladog ozenila (xxx) The singer Muhamed Pasic Masura worked as a barber in Visoko, while the saz player Selim Salihovic was a respected watchmaker in Bijeljina. The song «Majka Muju...» is an homage to this great duo and their famous recordings from 1972. 7. Koliko je sirom svijeta (xxx) This song about a man who was left alone in the world is probably the first sevdah song I have ever sung. 8. Prosi Ajku (Dervis Kurtovic – Emina Zecaj) In the spring of 2009 I began my apprenticeship with Emina Zecaj, one of the most important sevdah singers of today. She sang this beautiful song to me and thus revealed a completely new way of understanding sevdah. 9. Sarajevo na visoku gledu (xxx) A sevdah classic of seductive simplicity. It came to my mind while I walked the hills of Sarajevo with my friends, at a resting place from which the city unravelled itself in a surprising way. 10. Na Obhodzi prema Bakijama (xxx) The last few verses of this song are usually sung as a song in it's own right: «Moscanice, vodo plemenita». The girl these verses are attributed to actually existed: she sung them to her loved one who had escaped from Sarajevo when plague broke out and hid at his family estate near the Sava river. The plague passed away but her loved one never returned.
