Inspired by a road trip across the country, "Deep Breath in the Desert" is Jason Gallagher's second release as a solo songwriter. They are 12 songs that feel good on the ride home; acoustic, southern soul ballads about the girls you're speeding toward and those you've left behind. Bluegrass legend Tony Rice is Gallagher's guitar god, and John Prine his storytelling guru. Expect lots of acoustic guitar on this album, with hints of dobro, lap steel, and mandolin, all performed by Gallagher himself. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "...Jason Gallagher applies heart and soul to this homespun collection of late night acoustic songs. While his band does a good job at ripping up Southern rock-fuled bourbon blues, his solo offering seems a bit more introspective and low-key, more suited to the fireside than a barroom brawl. Gallagher's admirable growl is reminiscent of other down South vocalists (Chris Robinson particularly), but offers enough originality to seperate him from his peers. The opening track "Promises" sets the minimal tone for the entire album, with mandolin and tambourine accenting the acoustic guitars, while some sparse slide playing breaks up the verses on the title track "Deep Breath in the Desert..." ...fans of introspective and soulful singer/songwriters will cherish every moment." - Zac Johnson, WWW.ALLMUSIC.COM
