Zion is a Christian Rapper and Pastor who hails from Savannah, GA. His gritty style is different from many Christian Emcees in the game today. The album “Soli Deo Gloria” is an excellent showcase of his God-given talents. Immediately upon clicking play, you are brought into a dramatic backdrop laced with heavily distorted electric guitar rhythms and a fierce drum beat. Zion’s voice hits hard but still stays sewed to the beat. The intro track is called “Well Done” and I must say the same about the track. Following each verse is a smooth but equally dramatic hook that has a sound reminiscent to Akon. Vocals layered on top of each other with Zion adding an energetic touch. The next track “Survived” goes hard both lyrically and instrumentally. Zion lets you in on his past of street violence and struggles on the block. Then after painting the picture he gives all glory to the Lord that he’s alive and well and admits he should be dead. Mind blowing story that really makes you realize that God can do anything with anyone! The hook has a very crunk style feel to it that drives the track. This one booms hard in the ride if you’ve got woofers hooked up too! The next track that really hit me in the face was “Career Suicide”. Zion warns anyone wanting to go into the ministry musically that you won’t be popular and you won’t get radio play. He wants everyone to understand however that the glory given to Jesus is so much more worth it. I’m an absolute sucker for tracks with heavy soul grooves like this track. As always, Zion’s tough love delivery brings home the message that you are not your own any longer when you give yourself up.

“Victorious” is an upbeat anthem that lets you know that we are, well, victorious in Him! Love this track with it’s up and down retro style flow from Zion’s voice. The whole track is vintage 2004 and it’s a very refreshing break from the over-done “trap-muzik” style that’s heard all over radios and booming from every slab car down south. This classic sounding anthem is a can’t miss on this album! “Holiness” is a very sincere track that lets you know the motives of Zion as well as telling the listener that there’s one way to heaven. An old school beat peaks around the corner of a littlesmoother flow from Zion and the track guest . The last track I’ll focus on is “Pure Heart”. The track starts off with a very dramatic strings movement with opera vocals layered on top. The intro sets the stage for another very dramatic and energetic track. Zion talks of having a pure heart and displays his commitment to God in the lyrics. The hook is absolute fire to match the verses and production. The album overall is an incredible work with plenty of tracks to roll the windows down and crank the Kenwood too. Wonderful message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the form of very relevant hip-hop that can reach anyone who’s a fan.
