Rob Jones is a Melbourne lad, born and bred. He's been writing and playing music since he was a teenager. Rob started the 3 piece Rock band, "Cro Magnon" at the age of 20 and did countless shows for the next four years, including an EP release. This was the grounding for what would become a varied and ongoing life in the music biz! Rob was in several other bands before forming the Melancholics Anonymous (or, the MA, as they're affectionately known!), including power pop trio, the ARCADES. But he always got a great response when performing the odd solo show, in between ARCADES gigs. Rob had more than a handful of songs written, so decided it was time to get 'em recorded. Luckily, Rob has a few good mates, who are even better musos!! So the recruitment began!! On the bass guitar, the first member to join the MA, was Jay Spessot, the original bassist of Cro Magnon, and life long friend of Rob's. Dave Long (of the band Solla Sollew, on the Keys), Monica Royal (Cello) and Amy Bennett (Viola/Violin) all came along together, as they've all worked together on different projects. Pony Girl (of Pony Girl and the Outsiders), and a friend of the ARCADES, was more than happy to lend her voice to a couple of tracks on the album, and at live shows! The MA did some shows, and got great reviews, playing at the Whittlesea Country Music Festival and places like the Tote in Collingwood, and released an EP (Alabama). But the MA was missing a beat....so Angela Jones, drummer of the band Diana's Bow, was recruited, and the MA became a full band!! With that, they kept playing live shows, including the Caravan Music Club! In January 2012, the Melancholics released their debut long player, The Love Lost Captain. 11 tracks of pure emotion. Whether it be "Cut Me Loose" the dirty blues song, or "Jail Song", a tale of deception and self discovery, laden with sweeping strings and piano, these songs all tell a story, and will have both your adrenaline and heart stings copping a workout!!
