String Quartet
简介
Smoke and Mirrors for electronic sounds and Chamber Orchestra. The recording is by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, conducted by Andrew Rindfleisch. The orchestra ( Fl, Cl, Tpt, Hrn, Tbn, 3 Perc, Hp, Pno, strings 2121) was arranged on stage to mimic the stereo field and reverb characteristics of the playback for maximum integration. I wanted to as seamlessly as possible expand the sound of the instruments so the sound is almost “real”, but also subtly impossible. String Quartet, Per la Fiamma Andando. This recording is the Dali String Quartet. The title, and the movements subtitles are all taken from Dante, with the movements each referring to one of the elements. The movements themselves are derived from scenes in the Inferno and Purgatorio which depict those elements, and I even set some of the words of the poem as melodies for the instruments, so it’s sort of a song-cycle on Dante- but without the singing. Concerto for Piano, winds and percussion. The recording is of the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, conducted by Markand Thakar and the piano soloist is Haewon Song. The concerto is in two connected movements. The first, which is only 4 minutes long is primarily a piano solo with minimal echoing in the instruments. The second movement –much longer at 13:40- is more “concerto-like” in concept, the soloist interacting with the instruments in differing combinations, in an arc running from maximum discontinuity between them at the beginning, to maximum unity at the end.
