Alex Mercado is acclaimed for his ability to create vibrant sonic landscapes that have resonated with critics and audiences alike in his native Mexico and internationally. After having released two albums as a trio, Refraction shows a more personal intimate world full of engaging melodies and exploring new territories in jazz improvisation. In Mercado´s words.

"An artwork is a refraction of life itself. The artist is a prism that absorbs reality and transforms it into an array of colors, sounds and shapes. A purified reality lies before us, expressing the essence of being. Visual and aural catharsis refract upon us, thus allowing for a decomposition into emotions, feelings and ideas".

Having collaborated with the likes of Antonio Sánchez, Scott Colley, Bryan Lynch, Camila Meza, Sachal Vasandani and Magos Herrera, Mercado is more than ready to join them in the vanguard of today´s jazz world.
