CHRISTIAN SINGER SHAWN THOMAS' LATEST EFFORT NOW AVAILABLE Openly gay Christian singer Shawn Thomas has released a two-disc collection of songs called, Covered and Created, featuring a full CD of cover songs (Covered) and a full CD of original work (Created). The Covered disc features songs originally performed by Mariah Carey, Cher, Faith Hill and Chris Tomlin, among others. Part two of the collection, Created, features 10 new original songs by Thomas including "Still I Will," "A Moment of Grace" and "The Everlasting God." It has been three years since the release of Thomas' last studio effort, Worship and Desperation. Thomas also produced a compilation of work contributed by 14 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered Christian artists, UP: Unashamed Praise, which was released in March, 2011. "I'm very excited the release of Covered and Created," Thomas said. "The songs I chose to cover are songs that have meant something to me in my life and in my faith -- and a few of them might surprise a few people. The new original songs are more scripturally based than some of what I've written in the past, and my hope is that God's message of love and grace comes through in those lyrics." Thomas, the son of a preacher, has studied music for more than 20 years, and now writes and produces his own work in addition to producing music for other artists at his studio in south Florida. Thomas is also the author of Unashamed: Coming Out of the Second Closet, which was published in October, 2010 and deals with the difficulty of being both gay and Christian in a world where LGBT persons have often been disaffiliated by churches and many Christians still believe faith and homosexuality are incompatible.
