World renown producer/DJ Doc Link displays his sheer versatility with his 2019 release of the LP ‘The Documents’. Truly a compilation album on many levels, the project features a slew of skillful lyricists and vocalists that gives it well rounded feel. The second album released under the Artistry Inc. label showcases Doc’s production mastery, accompanied by various performances from artists from his home town of Chicago, to grimy east coast Newark, NJ MC’s. Known more for his work on the decks and boards, Doc shakes up the routine with the self-titled ‘Doc Link’, a rare solo glimpse of Doc the MC! Naturally, Artistry Inc’s frontline wordsmith Sav Warfare makes a few guest appearances via remixes from his debut album ‘Verbal Warfare’ and other yet-to-be released cuts from the AI duo. Other Chi-Town hip hop veterans, such as Uno and ANG-13, can be heard laying down flawless verses over classic Doc Link beats. Some of Doc’s gone but not forgotten comrades, who are no longer alive, still have a voice due to their works prior to their passing making the album as well. R&B grooves, thought-provoking spoken word, and vintage Doc Link instrumentals only add to the depth and totality of a masterpiece that has been years in the making.
