To begin, your album has all the requisite qualities to make it a popular item: clean and crisp audio EQ, the mix and balance is near perfection, and the grass roots instrumentations make the sound accessible to the mass audience.     I want to repeat that, because during each song I would remark to myself “Wow, the SOUND on this album is really a pleasure!”     You have excellent musicians on this session; they are so comfortable and confidently relaxed that the music just flows out without any sense of pushing or trying to make it rock for the sake of impression.     For that matter, the tone of the selections are also well-balanced – this one rocks a bit, that one is more folky, the next has a country feel with a wink.     Each one in it’s own way carries a message, but the music transcends each presentation, so the listener doesn’t begin to feel preached at and simply appreciates the song as a piece of poetry set to music.     I can hear certain pop writing influences in the compositions: Cat Stevens for one; Loggins & Messina perhaps; even the sometimes disparaged Ringo Starr.  But Ringo had the kind of simple and direct delivery with a lyric that is often overridden by compositions that are more stylized or over-arranged.     Another plus, I feel, is that each tune feels like it is the perfect length.  Even though most are in the 3-4 minute range, they feel like the older 2½ minute pop chart length – which is a plus, because they don’t drone on, ramming the message down one’s throat.     This may not sound like a compliment on the surface, but it is.  Once again I return to the critique that your poetry is so beautifully delivered by the musical beds that one WANTS to listen, rather than skipping ahead to see what else is offered.     The simplicity of the arrangements help this in a positive way, as well.  I give high compliments to your collaborators; you all have turned out a lovely, attractive, and meaningful album of “message” songs that will catch millions of ears!     Finally, your soulful vocals lend a timeless quality to the delivery of the words.  The singer is obviously an ethnic, but of indeterminate origin, rather than just another American pop voice.  There is just enough “otherness” there to intrigue the ear song after song.  In addition, your husky, unpolished (rather than slick and egotistic) delivery merely adds to the poetic intrigue presented by the whole musical package.     Yacov – I send my highest compliments to you for this labor of love.  Judging from this debut outing, I know we can look forward to many more albums in the years to come.  You have a winner here!     With admiration, your friend Don Comments by Adelle Chabelski, human rights advocate Congratulations! For those who are listening and have open minds, you tell stories with golden nuggets of wisdom: “Be all that you can be” and “… Keep on trying, try again.” Inspiration and advice any good mother, father, or great teacher might give. Your songs are a celebration of those important moments in life we all share - like that first memorable moment when we meet someone we love. The songs are pure poetry. The music is like melodies coming from the heart, poetic, beautiful, and uplifting – some are a joyful delight. The quality of Dani Granot’s voice is unforgettable and haunting. Themes of freedom, love, loss, family, and immigration tell our story as a people and as a nation. We want to sing and dance with the “4th of July” Celebration, and willingly take our part in keeping these freedoms alive. May your tribute to the “twenty little angels” and adults, who perished in Newtown from gun violence, be a reminder of what was lost and what still needs to be done. May your love and positive attitude towards universal brotherhood, freedom, and justice so poignantly reflected in your songs, grow in energy and help make the world you dream of a reality for us all.
