Handmade Recordings’ next release “You’ll House Me” comes courtesy of prolific San Francisco DJs Roman Stange and Craig Kuna. Both are renowned around the Bay Area for playing forward-looking dj sets of the latest house and techno cuts and for taking that spirit to their production work. Stange and Kuna have worked on remixes for releases on Blipswitch Digital and Claude Von Stroke’s Mothership imprint, while Stange has produced material on his own for the Auralism label. For “You'll House Me” Stange and Kuna reach back to their house influences while keeping things sounding brand new. The track opens with tough a 4/4 kick and reversed strings and vocals. It develops into a deep, bassy monster with snares and toms that roll and swing while metallic chords and fragmented samples from Rhythm Controll’s “My House” acappella and The NYC Peech Boys’ “Life Is Something Special” wheel around in the mix creating a swirling narrative on house music’s former glories and dance floor triumphs yet to come. The other mix on this release is provided by German producer Franklin De Costa, who takes the rolling drums and places a low-slung, understated bass line under them. He adds delayed chords that are woven with vocal samples and the ensuing concoction is layered over the bass and drum spine, propelling the track towards a gorgeous mid-track breakdown that will lift the dance floor to another level in the early AM. Both sides of this release will have a place in your crate for quite a while and it’s one you’ll go back to time and time again.
