This is Norrin_Radd meets the Sega Genesis. Traditionally I have been known as an 8bit NES chiptune artist, but over the last couple years I have had the perfect excuses to delve in to the world of 16bit chiptunes. This is my first full length soundtrack to feature an entirely 16bit 4OP FM sound, which is exactly what the Sega Genesis was working with. I could not be happier with how it turned out! I have to thank the game developer from Pixel Licker, Reggie Schreiber, for actually encouraging all of my wackiest ideas. At times it almost felt like he was antagonizing me to go further, which was awesome. So I went as far as I could intelligibly see the music going while still matching the game itself. This sound track does not adhere to strict limitations of the Sega Genesis Hardware. While I am using authentic sounds and methods of the Genesis, I am bending the rules in intelligent ways to create what I like to call "HD Memory". We all like to imagine those old bleeps and bloops sounding a little better then they actually did. If you go back raw after decades of being away, the shock can really sober you up. My goal here was to actually attempt to simulate our own HD Memory of those original Sega Genesis tunes, but sweetening up the tonality and the overall fullness of the mix. Often times this was done with intelligent use of delays and extra channels, but I assure you, the final product is meant to ping every nostalgic nerve of the 16bit Sega Genesis days. If I were a game composer in the 80s, I would like to imagine this is how my Sega Genesis soundtrack would have sounded.
