Backed by a band that features Meters bassist George Porter Jr. and keyboardist Sammy Berfect, August tears through a set of New Orleans standards, augmenting the play list with such fine originals as "'58 Pink Cadillac" and several traditional jures. He and his band really cook up a head of steam during these 16 numbers, making Creole Cruser an excellent party record of neo-traditional New Orleans zydeco.
