简介
"Each tune comes out as pure and individual as a finely cut gem. Ms. Martin proves herself to be "not just a singer," as her intonation, relaxed sense of swing, and clear focus in her delivery make her an up-and-coming vocalist who's already there." -Larry Blood, KUSP, Central California Public Radio "Kay Martin is new to me, and I'm so glad I found her. She handles her business and gets into my head in a very pleasurable way, so that I want more... her voice is smooth, soft, and delightful..." -Afrikahn Jahmal Davys, KKUP 91.5 fm/Jazz Beat Radio.tv, Jazzline Radio and TV "Kay Martin's effortless vocal delivery gently guides the mind toward life's sweet subtleties: the come-hither glance from an intriguing stranger, the fizz of champagne, the glint of sun on ocean waves." -Damon Orion, The Santa Cruz Good Times "Just wonderful music... THIS IS JAZZ...the songs are golden and the approach (the arrangement) is just wonderful...what a GREAT voice Kay Martin does have! I died and went to heaven... fine group." -Jim Compton-Schmidt, KFCF 88.1 fm, Fresno, Ca Kay grew up playing guitar and singing folk, R&B, and pop, but she considers jazz her deeper roots: "crawling around to Ella and Sarah, and my grandfather adored Louis Jordan, Louis Armstrong, the Duke." When she discovered Brazilian jazz and fusion she fell instantly in love, and she's been singing sambas and bossas--and mixing them up with standards, pop and soul--ever since. Kay comes from the Santa Cruz-Monterey Bay area where she studied with trumpeter Ray Brown (formerly with the Stan Kenton band) and vocalist Michele Rivard, among others. She has performed in many venues around the Monterey Bay, with extended runs at the famous Shadowbrook restaurant in the beach resort of Capitola, and regular appearances at many of the clubs for jazz in the greater Santa Cruz area. After relocating to Los Angeles in late '02, Kay has been performing mainly in LA. Her just-released CD, Four Sweets, features some of today's great working LA musicians.
