Youlanda Patmore affectionately called Landie, came from humble beginnings in the island of Jamaica. She started singing at the tender age of six. She began singing at church because her father, a minister of religion gave her the opportunity to inspire people with songs that were similar in theme and message to his sermons. Her mother a very talented play writer helped her to develop the talent of singing and writing by giving her the opportunity to help in preparing members of the youth organizations in the different congregations. Her mother is a self taught musician. Her mother , Constance, played the guitar and the piano. Youlanda got the gift of singing and her brother Roger got the gift of singing and playing the piano.

When she started Bishop Gibson High school, one of her teachers, Ms. Yvonne Clarke, gave her the opportunity to sing at morning devotions. She graduated from high school and went on to Bethlehem Teachers College. At college she grasped the opportunity to enter the Ms. Bethlehem talent contest. She became Ms. Bethlehem in 1996. She immediately became a member of a reggae band by the name of Roots Official. Roots official was known for entertaining visitors to the country of Jamaica. Mr. Motrel the manager of the band wanted her to start recording in 1997 but her parents encouraged her to go on to the University of the West Indies. She entered another talent contest at the university and became Ms. Irvinia. (representing Irvine Hall). She completed her B.A. in 2000 and migrated to New York.

After living in New York for five years, she moved to Atlanta Georgia (A Town). It was in Atlanta she met her producers Hasan Carriel and Allen Humphrey who decided to work with her on her first album. She was very happy when she found Hasan because he believed in her and made this album a reality.
