Beginning with ‘Back In School’ (sixth grade), to ‘No Time For A Bad Day’ (seventh grade), to ‘Look At Us Now’ (eighth grade) the girls have sung a timeline of their lives from youngsters in elementary school to young ladies entering high school. The song itself, ‘Look At Us Now,’ celebrates graduation, but not just graduation. It celebrates friends going all the way through together from kindergarten to eighth grade. It looks back at what it took for them to get to where they are now and it looks forward to the challenges and excitement of high school. The Jellybeans had a lot to do with the writing of these songs in terms of subject matter and ideas for lyrics. As you might expect, all the songs are sung from the girl’s point of view, but don’t expect to hear ‘teen pop’ from them. They sing several different styles of songs including a beautiful ballad accompanied by acoustic guitar (This Place I Go), a pop/rock ballad (How Do I Walk Away Now?) and a high energy rock number (If He Only Knew). Mixed in there is their favorite song on the CD, ‘Forever Alone,’ a sort of swing tune about not being able to go with boys until they are (much) older. It is a really fun number that will take you back to the girl group sound of the early 1960’s with their beautiful harmonies. As their music and their voices have matured from year to year, and from CD to CD, this is their finest work yet. It is also a very impressive body of work for girls to have done at such a young age. The Jellybeans are in a class by themselves.
