简介
Hughie started his musical journey in a tour bus with double bass and surf boards strapped to the roof playing every venue that skirts the east coast of Australia. Thats where he learnt what the grit of performings about. Always the songwriter he was quick to start heading to Nashville and L.A in his early twenties. Along the way Luminaries like Lou Rawls, Bob Welch, Keith Urban and the boys from INXS have passed on a thing or two about the importance of creating something on record unlike any other artist, and then hitting the road to perform it. We'll let Hughie tell you how this album came about. " After touring solidly in Australia I decided it was time to take a band to America. We played three months in Swing halls and Universities from East to West grabbing on to the coat tails of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Royal Crown Revue, Squirell Nut Zippers swing revival. The boys and I had a ball playing my songs swing songs across the states but in the soul I knew that we were kind of repeating what Louis Jordan and his band had done fifty years ago. I think I explained it to the band as 'We could soon end up with the Yo Yos and Fondou kit in the ' musical fad' draw'. The tunes i was writing started to lean in and out of swing and i was on the look out for a producer that I could experiment with a collision of what I had done up until then and pop. I returned to Sydney after a great tour frustrated on the inside. That is always a sign that there are new things to try and I found that opportunity through my then Manager, Greg Shaw. Greg also managed Keith Urban who had had some contact with INXS. Greg had become friends with Kirk Pengilly over the years and soon introduced me to Kirk. We got on well and recorded the track 'Half past Eleven'. A local radio station started playing it and so we did another and then another and then soon we were making an album in Kirks Kings Cross studio, inbetween his commitments to INXS." Australia's #1 mainstream radio station picked up 'Slap that A**' playing it at high Rotation before its release. Their is a duet written and performed with Keith Urban and guest musicians from INXS popping in to lay down some tracks. A video was made which you can see at Hughies www.myspace.com/hughieonline.com Drop Hughie a line while you are there.
