Northern Sunrise is pianist, composer and producer Mika Pohjola's most exploring and versatile work to date. It includes valuable contributions by Steve Wilson, Ben Monder, Massimo Biolcati and Mark Ferber, but most of all the album features Pohjola's creative mind as an improviser and composer. Pohjola has released twenty-five recordings on his own name, ranging from solo piano improvisations to massive orchestral productions. Mika Pohjola's musicianship allows the listener to delve into his creative mind, and to know him more than merely as a pianist who plays his tunes. Pohjola's music is, however, always about inclusiveness and interaction. "I know I have succeeded when everyone in my band sounds at their best."
